BIOGRAPHIE
MICHÈLE PIERRE
Michèle Pierre is an eclectic cellist, who thrives in classical music as well as in contemporary and improvised music. Coming from the cello (Philippe Muller) and chamber music (François Salque) classes at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Paris, her first album recorded with the Duo Solea was warmly received by critics (**** Classica).
Passionate about chamber music, she founded this atypical duo in 2012 with guitarist Armen Doneyan.
The Duo Solea has won several first prizes and audience prizes in international competitions (Rabastens, Bellan) and obtained a scholarship at the Fnapec chamber music competition.
Both co-organize and provide artistic direction for La Semaine Classique du Lavoir, a friendly and open classical music festival at the Lavoir Moderne Parisien.
Michèle was principal cello of the Orchestre des Lauréats from 2015 to 2018 and had the chance to perform in the great Parisian venues (Philharmonie I and II, Opéra Garnier, Salle Pleyel). She has also been playing for over ten years in the Orchestre de Violoncelles de François Salque.
Michèle attaches particular importance to contemporary creation, and considers it very important to renew the codes of the "classical concert".
She is part of the lyrical creation company Miroirs Etendus whose artistic direction is provided by Romain Louveau and Fiona Monbet.
She participates in several projects (opera creation, opera revisitation, staged chamber music concerts), and performs in the operas of Rouen, Lille, at the Imperial Palace of Compiègne as well as at the Berghaim in Berlin.
Her openness to other styles makes her collaborate with artists of contemporary music, jazz and world music: she performs with Fred Pallem and the Sacre du Tympan and records on their latest album L'Odyssée, she plays in the Daniel Mille quintet around the music of Astor Piazzola, and also accompanies with this same quintet Jean-Louis Trintignant in a poetic recital.
She is part of the Roberta Roman trio, a tango and contemporary creations trio with the guitarist Roberta Roman and the bandoneonist Marisa Mercade.
Also passionate about composition and improvisation, she founded the Duo Brady in 2012 with cellist Paul Colomb. The two musicians compose cello duos between jazz, pop, world music, and contemporary music. They will record their first album next fall.
She also composed the music for the play L'Ame offert by Joël Zaffarano, for cello and electronic device, and a piece for cellist Justine Metral, Oiseaux.
Michèle is a winner of the 2014 Flame competition and has benefited from the valuable support of the Meyer Foundation.
